Prescribed Debt

They're collecting money

Wednesday morning

Welcome, Hambisani.

⌗ How this works

Five fixes. Then we keep managing them for you.

Each one is a complete piece of work — start it, finish it, and we keep it as a live product you can manage from here. We've suggested an order. You can pick your own.

Let's start with the biggest leak
💲
Insurance inside
your loans.

We found it. We can fix it.
R 298 back every month.

Found in your loans
You may not have been aware
you were paying for this.

When you took these loans, the bank added insurance to them. You signed for it — but probably weren’t told what it was, what it cost, or that you could replace it.

This is coming from your loans

ABSA R 295
Old Mutual R 280
African Bank R 275
Total leaving your account R 850

per month — insurance added to your loans

This insurance is actually doing something.

If you die, become disabled, or are retrenched — your loans get paid. Without it, your family inherits the debt, or you lose your job and lose your loan too.

It’s worth having. Just not at this price.

Theirs is expensive.
Ours is cheaper — and does more.

Your new premium
R 552
/month
was R 850
R 298
back in your pocket — every month
For that R 552, you get:
All 3 loans fully protected
Death, disability, retrenchment — same protection your bank gave you.
+
Plus — R 350 000 life cover for your family
A real life policy. Pays out to your family if anything happens to you. No extra charge.

We turn expensive bank insurance into a real life policy that protects your family — while your loans are still fully covered.

This offer is underwritten by Guardrisk Life Insurance Company Limited, an authorised long-term insurer and cell captive. EmpowerFS (Pty) Ltd (FSP 53395) acts as the intermediary. Cover commences from the date of first premium payment.

One quick question

R 850
R 552
SAVE 35%
Same loan protection. Lower cost.
Your loans are fully protected
If you pass away, your loans are paid.
If you are disabled, your loans are paid.
If you are retrenched, your payments are covered.
The transformation
We turned your loan insurance
into life cover for your family.
1
If something happens to you today
Your loans are paid in full. Your family receives the rest of your cover (R 600 000 in total).
2
When your loans are settled
Your life cover doesn't end. Your family receives the full R 600 000 if anything happens to you.
The deal
R 850 R 552 /month
You pay less than before
and your family gets life cover that outlasts the loan.
The R 552 keeps debiting after your loan ends — that's what keeps the life cover alive for your family.
One last step
This is now a life policy that protects your family.
That's why we need to know who receives the payout.

🔴 Most important finding

One of your cars needs a tracker to be active.

Your Discovery Sport shows "tracking device required: Yes" but also says "no tracking device." Discovery's conditions mean there is no theft or hijack cover if the required tracker is not installed and active.

🟡 Worth checking

Your newer Range Rover has finance, but no write-off accelerator.

If a financed vehicle is written off, the insurance payout and what the bank wants are not always the same amount. On a newer vehicle financed through Investec, this needs a proper check.

Our audit checks every component, not just the total. Paying for something unused is avoidable leakage.

Simple questions · live results

Where are the weak spots?

Answer honestly. The point is not to defend the current policy — the point is to see whether it is safe.

Issues found
0
Is the Discovery Sport tracker definitely installed and active?
This is the biggest issue in the schedule. One page says a tracker is required. Another says no tracking device. That must line up — or theft cover can fail.
Discovery Sport · theft cover condition
Was the Discovery Sport pre-inspected when cover started?
Discovery requires proof of inspection within five working days for non-new vehicles. Without it, claims can be challenged.
Discovery Sport · start date 04 Dec 2024
Do you know if the Range Rover payout would fully settle the bank if written off?
The Range Rover is financed through Investec. On financed cars, the gap between what insurance pays and what the bank wants matters enormously.
Range Rover Sport · Investec finance
Does the home meet the minimum theft security requirements?
The schedule shows burglar bars but no electric fence, no access control and no radio-linked alarm. The second lock/alarm requirement matters for theft claims.
House contents · security conditions
Do both main drivers still match how these cars are actually used?
Discovery prices cars partly on who mainly drives them and where they are kept. If that has changed, the policy should match reality.
Listed drivers: Gabangani Hlatshwayo & Buhle Tsatsi
Is the home contents cover still enough for what is actually inside the house?
This plan covers household contents for R1,123,600. A proper audit must always ask whether that figure still matches what it would cost to replace everything today.
Household contents · adequacy check
Is the current structure still worth the premium?
You are paying for two luxury vehicles, household contents, Vitality Drive and recovery features. The question is whether this exact mix is still the best one.
Current monthly premium · R8,750.17
Are you actually using the premium add-ons you are paying for?
This plan includes Vitality Drive at R230.00 per month. A proper audit always checks: do you know it is there, do you understand it, and are you using it?
Premium component check · Vitality Drive R230/month

Your cover, in plain language.

This is not about reading policy jargon. It is about whether your current setup is strong enough when something goes wrong.

Protection score
Working
Watch
Act now
✅ Working for you
Strong overall cover base. Two vehicles are on comprehensive cover, household contents are insured, and personal liability is included up to R5 million.
Useful extras are included. Car hire, roadside support, HomeAssist, Home Protector and Stolen Vehicle Recovery are all part of the structure.
The Discovery Sport is unusually light on excess. That car shows R0 accident excess and R0 glass excess on the schedule.
🟡 Needs attention
The financed Range Rover needs a proper write-off check. A retail-value payout and a bank settlement figure are not always the same on a newer car.
The home security conditions must be matched exactly. Theft cover can fail if the minimum security setup is not what the policy expects.
The household contents cover must still match what is actually inside the home. R1,123,600 should be tested against current replacement cost, not assumed.
The premium is high enough to justify a full benchmark. At R8,750.17 a month, this should be compared carefully, not assumed.
Every premium component should earn its place. Vitality Drive costs R230.00 a month. Awareness and actual use should be tested, not assumed.
🔴 Act on these now
The Discovery Sport tracker issue is the red flag. If a tracker is required but not installed and active, theft and hijack cover can fail entirely.
The pre-inspection condition must be cleared. If the Discovery Sport was not inspected within the required window, that is a genuine cover risk.
What happens next

Now we make sure you are covered for what actually matters — not what maximised your broker's commission.

The audit has shown you where the gaps and leakage are. Now we go further — we source a structure that gives you the right cover at the right price. The goal is always the same: maximum protection, minimum premium, every rand doing its job.

We benchmark your current Discovery structure against the market
We identify whether the weak spots we found can be fixed — or whether a cleaner structure exists
We only recommend a switch if the replacement is genuinely better — not just cheaper
At R 8 750/month, even a 10% saving is R 1 050 back in your pocket every month

WITHOUT PREJUDICE

Dear Truworths Credit Collections,

I refer to account reference TW-2019-448832, reflecting a balance of R6 850.00 on my credit profile.

I have reason to believe this debt has prescribed in terms of the Prescription Act 68 of 1969. My records indicate that no payment has been made and no written acknowledgement of liability has occurred in more than three years.

I hereby formally challenge this account on the grounds of prescription and request that within 20 business days you provide either:

1.  Proof of the last payment made, or a written acknowledgement of debt signed by me; or

2.  Written confirmation that the debt has prescribed, and a formal instruction to all credit bureaus to remove this listing from my credit profile.

Should you fail to respond within the stipulated period, or fail to provide the required proof, I will treat the debt as prescribed and escalate directly to the relevant credit bureaus and the National Credit Regulator (NCR).

Yours faithfully,
Hambisani Mahlangu

🚫 This is not debt counselling

You're not handing your debt to anyone. No flag on your credit bureau. No legal block on future credit. You decide what to offer. You deal with creditors directly. We just give you the tools.

📋 Before we do anything

You're behind.
What are your actual options?

🚫 "Just consolidate your debt"

Take one new loan to pay off all the old ones.

The catch? You're already behind. Banks see that. You won't qualify — or you'll get offered expensive credit that makes things worse.
🚫 "Go under debt review"

A third party manages your payments to creditors.

The catch? NCR "under review" flag on your bureau profile. You can't get any new credit while under review. Locked in for years. Built for someone else to act on your behalf — not for you taking charge.
So what can you do?

You make them an offer. To settle. At a discount.

You can't pay the full amount. They know that. So you offer them what you can actually afford — as full and final settlement. Pay it off over 18 months. The rest gets written off. The accounts close. You move on.

Why would they say yes? Because something is better than nothing. They'd rather get a real offer they can collect than chase you for years for an amount you can't pay.

Here's how that works
1
You decide what you can actually afford

One honest number. After your essentials. After what you're already paying. No guessing. No overpromising.

2
We split it fairly across your debt

Each creditor gets their share, based on what their loan originally cost you. No favourites. No games.

3
You offer to settle — at a discount

Same letter to every creditor, same day. "Accept this amount as full and final settlement. The rest gets written off. The account closes."

4
They respond

If they all accept — your debt is settled in 18 months. If one says no — the deal doesn't hold. That's when the law has your back — there's a protection most people don't know exists. We'll walk you through it if it comes to that.

You don't need permission to deal with your debt.
You just need to do it properly.

💚 Already running well

Before we ask the question…
here's what you're already paying.

These are running fine. Keep them sacred. Whatever you commit next is on top of this.

We'll split this across your loans based on what each one was originally costing you per month.

🚨 Asset at risk

You're behind on
your vehicle finance.

This is a different game. Miss enough payments and the bank can come for the car — even with a court order, even on a Saturday morning. Time matters here.

⏰ How this works

At 3+ months in arrears, the bank issues a Section 129 notice. After that, they can take you to court and repossess the vehicle. We need to figure out the right move — now.

🤔 Honest question

Is this a blip
or something deeper?

The right move depends on this answer. Be honest with yourself.

😮‍💨 It's a blip

Cash flow got tight, but I've got this

I had unexpected expenses, a delayed bonus, a once-off thing. I can catch up the arrears within the next 1–2 months and get back on track.

😔 It's structural

I'm under real financial pressure

Income's not what it was, expenses keep rising, the instalment is genuinely beyond what I can afford right now. This isn't going to fix itself.

✓ You've got this

Then handle it directly.
The bank will work with you.

Banks would rather get paid late than repossess. Call Wesbank's collections line, tell them when you can catch up, and ask them to hold off on Section 129 while you do.

☎️
Call them today

Wesbank Collections: 0860 234 678. Have your account number ready.

🗓️
Propose a catch-up date

"I can clear the arrears by [date] and resume normal instalments after that."

✉️
Get it in writing

Ask them to email you the agreed catch-up plan. Keep it on file.

Heads up: if 2 months becomes 4, this stops being a blip. Come back if things change — we'll have other options.

⚖️ Different play

This is one of the few times
debt review is the right move.

⚠️ Yes, we said avoid debt review.

For unsecured debt — credit cards, store accounts, personal loans — debt review is a trap. We hold that. But you have an asset at risk now. That changes the math.

The honest trade-off
What it costs you

NCR "under review" flag on your bureau. Locked in until every debt (except the home loan) is paid off — could be years. No new credit during that time.

+
What you get

You keep the car. The debt counsellor negotiates a reduced instalment that fits your actual budget. Wesbank can't repossess while you're under review and paying the agreed amount. Legal protection across all your debt.

Worth it? If losing the car would hit harder than years of restricted credit — yes. For most people in this situation, it is.

If you want to go this route

We can refer you to a vetted debt counsellor we work with. They'll handle the application, deal with Wesbank, and negotiate across all your accounts.

⚖️ Bureau flag detected

You're flagged as
under debt review.

Your credit profile shows you've been placed under debt review by Sigma Debt Counsellors. We need to confirm a few things — because this isn't a small flag.

What this flag does to you
  • Blocks every credit application — banks see this flag and decline. Even small things like a Vodacom contract.
  • Locks you in for years — the only way out is to settle every debt under review (except a home loan) in full.
  • Can only be removed if it was placed without your informed consent.
The honest question

Did you actually consent to this?

Did you sign a Form 16, knowingly apply, and understand what you were signing up for?

📖 What this means now

Then here's the rule
you need to know.

1
You can only exit debt review one way

Every debt under review must be settled in full — except your home loan, which can stay on its renegotiated terms. Until that happens, the flag stays.

2
You cannot take new credit

Not a credit card. Not a clothing account. Not a phone contract on credit. Until you exit, every credit application you make will be declined.

3
Stay paying through your debt counsellor

Don't try to pay creditors directly while under review — it complicates the case. Pay through Sigma until you're cleared.

If your situation changes and you want to challenge how the review was set up, come back. Otherwise, work the plan and aim to settle.

🚩 Without your consent

Then this is removable.
And the regulator wants to hear from you.

A debt counsellor placing someone under review without informed consent is a breach of NCR rules. You file a complaint. They investigate. The flag comes off if you're right.

What we'll help you do, in order
1
Draft a formal complaint to the National Credit Regulator

Stating you never consented, the flag is harming your access to credit, and you're requesting investigation and removal.

2
Send it from your email

Sent direct to complaints@ncr.org.za with you copied. We don't speak for you — you sign your own complaint.

3
Track the response

The NCR has 30 days to respond. We monitor and ping you when there's news.

Subject: Complaint — debt review placed without consent — Hambisani Mahlangu (ID 8210131234567)

To the National Credit Regulator,

I am writing to lodge a formal complaint against Sigma Debt Counsellors (NCR registration unknown), who placed me under debt review without my informed consent.

I have only become aware of this because the flag is showing on my credit bureau record and is preventing me from accessing legitimate credit.

I never signed a Form 16. I never agreed to be placed under debt review. I do not know how this happened.

This has materially harmed me — I have been declined for credit applications, including basic services that require a credit check, on the basis of a status I did not consent to.

I am requesting:

• An investigation into Sigma Debt Counsellors' conduct in placing me under review
• Immediate removal of the debt review flag from my credit profile
• Confirmation in writing of the outcome

I am happy to provide any further information needed.

Yours faithfully,
Hambisani Mahlangu

🔒 Locked · check needed first

Before we recommend this,
we check what you already have.

This product is for people who don't have funeral cover. If you already do, we'll route you to a different fix instead of selling you another policy.

The check

We scan your bank statements for funeral debits.

Three months of statements, looked at by us, returned with a one-line answer: cover detected, or not.

  • If we find funeral debits — we route you to the consolidation fix instead. You don't need this product if you already have cover.
  • If we find none — this product unlocks. You'll see how it works and decide for yourself.
⚖️

We don't sell first and check later. We check first, and only then sell you something that fits.

📄 Step 1 of 2

Upload your
bank statements.

Three months of recent statements (PDF). We'll scan only for funeral insurance debits — nothing else gets stored or shared.

✓ Unlocked for you

Future cash —
without borrowing a cent.

Let's be honest about where you are.

Loans make things worse
Credit comes with punishment
Collectors don't forget
Repayments trap you

So this is not credit.

This is insurance that pays cash into your bank account when a covered life passes away.

No loans
No repayments
No interest
No affordability checks
No collectors
You decide: who is covered who gets the money how the money is used

This is an insurance product that pays a lump-sum benefit on the death of a covered life. It is not an investment or savings product. Claims subject to policy terms.

📖 Why this works

When credit stops working,
people still need future cash.

1
The payout is cash, not credit

Money lands in your bank account. You owe nothing back.

2
Paid directly into a bank account

No middleman, no funeral parlour controlling the funds.

3
It sits outside the credit system

No bureau check. No affordability test. No effect on your credit score.

What people actually do with this
  • Handle emergencies
  • Support family
  • Deal with sudden costs
  • Avoid borrowing again

We don't tell you how to use the money. Once it pays, it's yours.

✍️ Mandate & disclosures

Authorise the
debit order.

A debit order mandate gives the insurer permission to collect your monthly premium from your bank account. It's the standard way insurance is paid in South Africa.

Debit Order Mandate

I, Hambisani Mahlangu (ID 8210131234567), authorise the debiting of my Capitec Bank account ending 4382 for the monthly premium of my Funeral Cash Benefit Policy, on the 25th of each month.

I understand that:

  • Premiums may be adjusted annually with 30 days' written notice.
  • I may cancel this mandate at any time by giving the insurer and my bank 30 days' written notice — but cancellation will end the policy.
  • If a debit fails, the insurer may retry within 10 working days.
  • Two consecutive failed debits will lapse the policy and end my cover.
  • This mandate is governed by the rules of the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA).
FAIS Act disclosure
  • EmpowerFS is an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP 53395), licensed to advise on and intermediate this product.
  • This is your first funeral insurance policy — there is no existing cover being replaced.
  • Commission on premiums is paid to EmpowerFS by the insurer in line with FSCA caps. Your premium is not increased to fund this commission.
  • You may lodge complaints with the FSCA Ombud (FAIS Ombud) at info@faisombud.co.za.

💰 Loan replacement

Real cashflow relief.
Or no replacement.

A cheaper loan to settle an existing one — but only if it actually frees up money in your pocket each month. Not a longer term that pretends to help.

✕ What we won't do

Stretch your loan term so the monthly looks lower. You pay more in interest, for longer. That's "consolidation" — and it's how the industry traps people.

✓ What we will do

Find a cheaper loan that genuinely costs you less per month — at the same or shorter term. If we can't, we don't replace.

The rule: if you're not currently paying a loan, replacement isn't relief — it's just a new debt. We only replace loans you're actually servicing.

🚧
Coming soon

We're finalising lender partnerships to make this work end-to-end. We'll let you know the moment it's live.
